Mark Wong has trained in Wong Shun Leung Ving Tsun since the age of nine. What started in Hong Kong has led to over three decades of study, competition, and teaching.
Sifu Wong Shun Leung (1935–1997) was one of the most influential figures in Ving Tsun history — and the man whose approach to the art continues to guide everything Mark teaches today.
BELOVED SIFU WONG SHUN LEUNG (1935-1997)
Mark Wong's introduction to Ving Tsun began at age nine in Hong Kong, when he first encountered Sifu Wong Shun Leung. That meeting set the direction for everything that followed — decades of dedicated training, first under Sifu Wong himself, and later continuing under various Sihings after Sifu Wong's passing in 1997.
In 2010, Mark put his training to the test at the 5th Hong Kong International Wushu Competition, winning the Gold Medal in the 80kg Full Contact Category — one of the most competitive divisions in a prestigious international field.
In 2011, Mark joined the PVT Group as one of its head coaches, working to promote WSLVT across Asia and beyond. That year he presented at the "Border Incident" event in Melbourne, Australia, and in 2012 at the first WSLVT Gathering in Malaysia at David Peterson's school.
In 2014, Mark co-hosted a Hong Kong TV episode of Kung Fu Quest III in Japan alongside Jerry Yeung, and that same year hosted a separate RTHK programme exploring Chen Style Tai Chi — both produced by Radio Television Hong Kong.
After parting ways with the PVT Group in 2016, Mark began working part-time with John Wong Hong Chung — Sifu Wong Shun Leung's son — to continue promoting the WSLVT system. In 2017 he presented at the Wong Shun Leung Ving Tsun North America event at Gary Lam's school.
In 2019, Mark returned to California with one clear purpose — to teach the art properly to those genuinely committed to understanding it.
